Accountability app turns step-counting into daily challenge

Last night on the train I was thinking about how many steps I haven't done. At the moment I'm averaging about 6,000 a day which is just ridiculously low. That's a good day. Some days I think I've done less than 4,000. It's far too easy to fall into a repetitive executive slumber... whereby you are reasonably (or hopefully, very) productive at work, but you find yourself sitting about for 10 hours a day, minimum. "

The Apple Watch 'stand up' prompts are really helpful, but sometimes you can look a right fool suddenly standing up in a meeting, unless you interupt and explain to everyone that you're trying to get a bit of exercise.

So when I got home, I fired up the laptop and asked Claude to modify my EwanAgent app to also report my Apple Health metrics. (This, by the way, is inspired by the work that Holly Joint has been doing - more on that in Series 1 of Working On It Podcast by the way, she discusses what she's built in detail!).

Now, every hour during the day, I get a prompt on how many steps I've done. Yes, I know I can be looking, but when you're obsessing over X, Y or Z technology or AI strategy, the last thing I'm focusing on is whether I'm getting enough basic, low level movement exercise.

I've also got the app to give me a random prompt alongside the steps value - here are the statements I knocked out earlier. Bonus points if you can spot the cryptic Irn Bru reference.

Now then, let's see if I can get those steps up.

And for my Nomo, BLME and AcuityX colleagues, I invite you to please challenge me on how many steps I've done, whenever you see me.

Here's my list of semi encouraging statements:

Hold FAST!
Come on, MacLeod!
Let’s have it!!
Make it so!
Get another 500 in!
Faster, MacLeod!
DRIVE OVAAAAA!
Make it happen!
