Ewan MacLeod has been appointed as Chief Transformation Officer at Sohar International Bank in Oman, bringing his extensive European banking transformation experience to the Middle East market.
MacLeod previously served as Chief Digital Officer at Nordea, one of the largest financial services groups in the Nordic region, where he led comprehensive digital transformation initiatives across multiple markets.
"I'm excited to join Sohar International Bank at such a pivotal time in the banking industry," said MacLeod. "The opportunity to bring European digital banking expertise to the Middle East market, while learning from the unique dynamics of this region, is incredibly compelling."
During his tenure at Nordea, MacLeod was instrumental in driving the bank's digital transformation strategy, overseeing the implementation of innovative customer-facing technologies and streamlining internal operations through digital solutions.
At Sohar International Bank, MacLeod will be responsible for leading the bank's transformation agenda, focusing on digital innovation, customer experience enhancement, and operational efficiency improvements.
"Ewan brings a wealth of experience in digital transformation from one of Europe's most progressive banks," said a spokesperson for Sohar International Bank. "His appointment underscores our commitment to becoming a leading digital bank in the region."
The appointment comes at a time when Middle Eastern banks are increasingly investing in digital transformation initiatives to meet evolving customer expectations and compete with emerging fintech companies.
MacLeod's background includes extensive experience in technology implementation, organizational change management, and strategic transformation across different banking markets, making him well-positioned to lead Sohar International's digital evolution.
The move also reflects the growing trend of European banking executives taking on leadership roles in Middle Eastern financial institutions as the region continues to develop its financial services sector.
"The Middle East presents unique opportunities for digital innovation in banking," MacLeod noted. "I look forward to working with the talented team at Sohar International to deliver exceptional digital experiences for our customers."
