UK-based Sharia-compliant digital banking app Nomo has named industry veteran Ewan MacLeod as chief technology officer (CTO), effective immediately.
MacLeod brings almost 30 years of leadership experience to Nomo, including previous roles at NatWest, Nationwide, Nordea Bank, and Sohar International, where he spent three years as chief transformation officer.
"I've been following Nomo ever since it was announced," MacLeod shares in confirming his latest appointment on LinkedIn. "Digital banking in the Gulf has been a real focus for me for quite a while."
Launched in 2021 as a part of the Bank of London and The Middle East (BLME), which itself is a regional subsidiary of Kuwait's Boubyan Bank, Nomo provides Sharia-compliant digital banking services for businesses and individuals, as well as real-estate financing solutions for rental and residential properties.
Current technology integrations include Paymentology, whose cloud-based digital payment platform was first selected by Nomo in 2023 to process transactions, monitor fraud, issue Mastercard virtual cards, and gain insights into consumer spending.
On Nomo, MacLeod continues: "I've always been enormously curious about what they've been building and how they draw upon the great history and capability of BLME and Boubyan Bank to offer British banking services to Gulf-based residents and expats."
Speaking to FinTech Futures, Andrew Ball, CEO, Bank of London and The Middle East says that MacLeod "has already made a strong contribution to the bank's technology strategy and daily operations, working closely with our teams to strengthen platform resilience and delivery".
