Wordpress Help – custom search results

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Hi there — if you’re a Wordpress expert programmer, I’ve got some custom code I need created. Please send me an email with a quote — I’m ewan@ewan.net.

I need some custom code on the search.php template file to display search results like this:

- – - – -

Searching for ‘test’

Search found 54 results in the following categories:

Category 1: 34 results
Category 2: 12 results
Cateogry 3: 16 results

[ then the rest of the normal results you'd expect to see from the standard wordpress search ]

- – - – - –

The key point is I want people to be able to see what categories contain results first — then enable them to click on ‘34 results’ to display the results found from Category 1.

Thanks!
Ewan

ZumoDrive’s got an Android client coming

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

I’m rather pleased to see that the ZumoDrive chaps aren’t resting on their laurels. Fresh from launching their iPhone Application — I’ve been using it regularly, especially whilst here in Las Vegas (WiFi at the hotel) — I’m delighted to see that they’ve got an Android application coming soon.

I really, really like the concept of being able to extend/augment my handset data capacity with ZumoDrive. It basically tricks your computer/handset into thinking it’s got — in my case — 500gb of space. You can browse all the files as though they were resident on your device. When you want to use a file, it’s then downloaded over-the-air. In practice, it takes perhaps 5-10 seconds to start playing a podcast or a track. Brilliant.

The limiting factor for me is that my home internet connection is so rubbishly poor, it’s taking AGES to upload all my music and files.

Added BlogLoc to show my location

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

I’ve just added BlogLoc to Ewan.net so I can display my location on the right-hand side of the site. I haven’t yet investigated the possibilities of updating my general location via some kind of Yahoo Fire Eagle app running on my handsets. That’d be cool if it was possible. Meantime the location is updated and I’m marked as being in Las Vegas thus:

I just deployed a linux server in 10 seconds with Mosso

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Mosso have just launched their Cloud Servers offering. I’ve been using them for a long time to host and handle Mobile Industry Review and they’ve been stunning. No longer do we have to panic when one of the industry titans such as Scoble (incidentally, he’s just moved to work with Mosso/Rackspace) links to us.

We can handle the traffic — Mosso just spins up as necessary.

Their Cloud Servers offering is pretty nifty… because even though their standard service is fantastic, there are some applications that really do need ‘dedicated’ servers.

The brilliance here is that you can start off with a 256mb linux server using 10gb space… (at some stupid cost of $0.03 per hour!) and move up — instantly — to 15gb of RAM and 500gb of space in the click of a mouse.

Love it. Love it. Love it…

I just deployed a Fedora server in 10 seconds. I’ve now got an IP and root access and I’m ready to rock.

Wow.
