The device is simply fantastic. It’s fast, very fast. The two processors (it’s got a dedicated graphics accelerator) really help it motor along. You can see this best when you hit the photo gallery — the 12 megapixel images scroll by so beautifully. Not a hint of a jitter or pause. The capacitive screen is a delight to use and the applications on the device are surprisingly snappy. I am particularly impressed by the Symbian3 true multitasking facilities. I like it’s speed and convenience. I had 7 large applications running properly (not some Fisher-Price-wannabe multitasking — I’m looking at you, iPhone 4.0) without the device breaking a sweat. And the camera. Goodness me it’s phenomenal. You really can see the 12 megapixel difference. Plus, when you plug it into a 50″ flat screen HD television, it’s knife-sharp. Video played through the phone’s hdmi-out port is ridiculously phenomenal. I’ve taken lots of video and photos so standby for more details.

He and mum are both doing very well and got home last night!

I was at UCL the other day. It was super to be back. I’ve not been there — properly — for a good little while. Walking down the Cloisters I came across good old Jeremy Bentham, the institution’s founder. That there *is* Bentham. Literally. He asked for his body to be stuffed and displayed after his death. The head is obviously plastic. The real one is apparently stored in the University Safe. Rumour has it the head is brought out for meetings and, if there’s a stalemate, the head — that is Bentham — always votes yes. Heh. Progressive!

I must ask the Provost if this is true.

I made the mistake yesterday of going into Marlow Dry Cleaners, just off the High Street in Marlow. I had 25 shirts that I wanted washed and ironed. Since Hetty’s due date is just 23 days away, I didn’t want her to have to do it — and I’d prefer to pay an expert to do it rather than me mess around with them. I went into this place and as I began counting out the shirts, the chap stopped me. “It’s 2.99 each,” he said. “Right,” I said, “But how much for 25 shirts?”

I assumed they’d offer some kind of deal. “2.99 each,” said the grim-faced chap. “But there’s 25?” I prompted. “2.99 each,” he repeated. Right then. Instead I went to the little Dry Cleaners next to Marks & Spencer. Magda offered much more equitable terms for the shirts. She will have our business!

The series of Nokia Executive interviews have begun. This one is in an
open forum so we’re not filming it directly. Instead Rafe is going to
give us a breakdown to camera afterwards. Then we are off to the
meeting rooms to do the on-camera interviews.

There’s a heck of a lot of buzz and excitement around the Nokia and
Intel announcement if MeeGo.

Right now I’m sitting waiting for the Air New Zealand flight check-in to open. One of the problems with choosing an airline that only has one flight per day from LAX is that you really do have to wait for the check-in staff to arrive. They are also, if memory serves, the stewardesses on the flight. Efficient stuff. But annoying of you are early…
