Min, thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to do as your friend is
once I'm out of contract commitment. 30-day is the way ahead!

Ewan,
have to agree with your reply above. Speaking to a good friend of mine (who loves his HTC phones and has been with orange for a looong time). We talked about how our packages have changed over the years and how the industry is favouring 30day rolling contracts. In addition they give you flexiblity with purchasing whatever phone you want and how often you want too.
Hope you speak to someone who understands the meaning of long term relationship.
min

I think month-to-month is the way ahead. Indeed the deals they're
offering for pay-as-you-go are pretty amazing!

Min, thank you for the comprehensive reply. I can't help but agree
although I always considered Vodafone's network of stores to be
equally as helpful as their Customer Services. Strange. I'm going to
call them today.

It is stupid, but I do feel as if the high st. stores are there to penetrate the padestrian market. Penetrate meaning 'sell anyhow'. A bit like how the post office is now or even the high st. bank. they really have no idea what type of customer you are or your history. The agenda on their minds is "Can i get my commision outta this punter" and "will i make my stores (internal) monthly sales quota to win a butlins holiday".
sorry for being crude but it is. I've found the only way to get a better deal (i'm with orange and have been for last 5+yrs) is to call through at contract renewal time and ask to leave. it isnt until you get through to 'retentions' team that they suddenly realise they ca n offer you that new mobile and for a good deal.
Ps - orange have a premier service for higher paying customers, there are some perks but i know getting new phones for cheaper is one of them. I think its (cleverly) called Orange premier.
summary... call network direct. high st. stores are not going to help you much unless you cannot use a phone and need someone to physically show you.
hope that helps.

Good luck Ewan - if my experience is anything to go by you will be luck to get anyone to take your call. I think there is a deliberate conspiracy to stop customers changing price plans down. You can't do it on line and you struggle to get anyone to do it in the call center. Shoddy enough to have convinced me to move to another operator for all but the ones I am locked into. SIM only 30 day contract and but the damn phone is the right answer and then just be a tart move to the best tariff

Steve
